Sarah Ban Breathnach in her book Simple Abundance: A Daybook of Comfort and Joy suggests dipping into books with a culinary theme in July to help bring more harmony to your everyday life. She recommends the following novels:

  • Reckless Appetite: A Culinary Romance by Jacqueline Deval
  • Catering For Nobody by Diane Mott Davidson
  • Dying For Chocolate by Diane Mott Davidson
  • Cereal Murders by Diane Mott Davidson

Comfort Food

  • Meat loaf & mashed potatoes
  • Macaroni cheese
  • Chicken pot pie
  • Red beans & rice
  • Creamy risotto

Soul Food

  • Soup beans over mashed potatoes, beside coleslaw, buttery cornbread & cold beer
  • Fried chicken with biscuits, sweet corn & iced tea, followed by cherry pie

Nursery fare (best eaten in flannel PJ’s from a bunny plate with a cup of hot cocoa )
